The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program combines HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs), community-based outreach clinics (CBOCs), through VA contractors, or through other VA designated entities.
We serve anyone in Columbia who is struggling to provide for their basic needs or improve their life and wants help to create a path forward. Many of the people we serve have nowhere else to turn. Often, they are under great stress and facing multiple challenges. Without intervention, many of their situations would become quite dire and result in a negative domino effect such as eviction leading to homelessness or unaffordable car repair leading to job loss.

The Missouri Military Family Relief Fund (MMFRF) provides financial assistance to qualified military members and their families.
The Missouri Universal Service Fund provides financial support solely to landline companies participating in the Lifeline program and/or Disabled program. Both of these programs offer discounted service to qualifying households for voice service and/or internet service. The following programs offer discounts for voice and/or internet service:
1. Lifeline Program: Offers a $9.25 monthly discount to phone and/or internet service to a qualifying low-income household; however, this discount can be up to $24.00 for landline service.
2. Affordable Connectivity Program: Offers a $30 monthly discount for internet service and up to $100 for devices to qualifying low-income households.
3. Missouri Disabled Program: Offers a $24.00 monthly discount for landline telephone service to qualifying disabled Missourians.

Modest Needs is proud to support military Veterans who have recently returned from overseas deployment through our Homecoming Heroes Grant - a special program designed to prevent our Veterans from slipping into poverty as they work to make the difficult transition from overseas deployment to civilian life.
Veterans who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness are strongly encouraged to contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at (877) 4AID-VET (877-424-3838) for assistance. If Veterans do not have access to a phone or the internet, only then are they to visit their closest VA medical center without calling in advance. VA also urges Veterans who are not homeless or at risk of homelessness to contact their VA medical center before visiting for any reason. These steps are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
SSVF may include intensive case management, financial case management, housing search assistance, assistance in applying for VA benefits/services, life skills training, budgeting, job preparation, transportation assistance, landlord/tenant mediation, and temporary financial assistance (rent, utilities, etc.) to address housing barriers.
o Veterans do not need to be VA Health Care Eligible to qualify for SSVF.
o Must be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
o Income must fall below 50% area median income for their area.

The Kitchen, Inc. provides services to families, individuals, youth, seniors, and Veterans to make sure homelessness is rare, brief and nonrecurring for each of its clients. Case managers work with individuals to help them overcome the barriers that led to homelessness and connect them to resources in the community that will allow them to achieve housing stability.
The Salvation Army operates the largest shelter in Boone County, Harbor House, and it is the only shelter that serves a non-specific population (women, men, and families, regardless of race, faith, or sexual orientation), as well as providing private family units.
For those facing extreme heat (hot cots), unbearable cold (cold cots) weather Harbor House is a welcome respite featuring a safe place to eat and sleep at no cost.
Harbor House offers a 90-day program and offers three meals a day, shelter, showers, and laundry as well as case management that provides educational support, counseling services, and vocational direction. Harbor House programs help residents cultivate vital life skills through life skills classes for a successful and stable position in society.
True North is a domestic and sexual violence victim service program. The services provided are designed to empower those who have been battered or abused by an intimate partner, enabling them to begin the healing process and work towards regaining control of their lives again.
