The Missouri Attorney General’s Office DEFENDERS Program (previously known as the Military Legal Assistance Team) exists to defend those who defend our country and the freedoms that we enjoy. The DEFENDERS Program works to aid active duty servicemembers and military on several different legal issues pro bono, combat predatory businesses practices that target servicemembers, provide education on consumer protection issues facing active duty military, and more.

Military Matters is a program that fills the gap in legal services available to service members and veterans living in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan area. Military Matters works to provide pro bono legal services to service members and veterans who reside in or have home of record and legal issue in the Kansas City Metropolitan nine county service territory in any practice area.

The Veterans Will Clinic project is a volunteer partnership project between the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital and the Missouri Veterans Commission, a state agency. The volunteer lawyers will do their best to ensure that you have a valid Missouri will after completing this process. They will also direct you to other legal resources as appropriate. The Veterans Law Clinic is dedicated to helping St. Louis area veterans request discharge upgrades and correction of military records. We understand the importance of service and we recognize the impact of negative military records. The way in which service is captured in a veteran’s military record carries extreme importance in how a veteran views his or her service. More tangibly, certain characterizations of service can disqualify veterans for benefits and services.
The Veterans Law Clinic team consists of second and third-year WashU Law students supervised by a licensed attorney with many years of experience practicing as an active-duty commissioned officer. Our representation is entirely free for the veterans we assist.
